Arrangements for the Admission of Pupils with Disabilities

Disability is defined by the 1995 Disability Discriminantion Act as;
“A person has a disability if he or she has a physical or mental impairment that as a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day to day
activities.�
The school’s key objective is to reduce and eliminate wherever possible any barriers to access to the curriculum and to allow full participation in the school community for all children, and prospective pupils, with a disability. The school recognises its duty under the DDA:

• Not to discriminate against disabled pupils in their admissions and exclusions
procedures
• Not to treat disabled pupils less favourably
• To take reasonable steps to avoid putting disabled pupils at a substantial
disadvantage
• To publish an Accessibility Plan.

Key Objective
The Governing Body and Staff of this school will
• Provide all pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum, differentiated and
adjusted to meet the needs of individuals and their preferred learning styles.
• Recognise the parents’ knowledge of their child’s disability and its effect on his
or her ability to carry out normal activities.
• Respect the parents’ and child’s right to confidentiality

Existing Facilities
The school has the following existing facilities;
• We have installed ramps and rails at KS2 site
• A disabled toilet ( KS2 ) has been installed

Education Activities
The school will continue to seek and follow the advice of the LA’s support such as specialist teachers, tutors, educational psychologists and appropriate professionals.

Physical Environment
The school will take account of the needs of pupils and visitors with physical difficulties and sensory impairments when planning and undertaking future improvements and refurbishments of the site and premises, such as improved, lighting, toilet facilities and more accessible facilities and fittings.

The school will provide information in alternative formats when required or requested

Action taken by the Governing Body;
• Improve provision for children with specific SEN
• To ensure that the school complies with the DDA and Code of Practice
• Training for teachers on differentiating the curriculum
• School Plans to improve access to designated areas e.g. entrances and
• The new school has a lift at the entrance
• Improve the availability of written material in alternative forms
