Year 5 go to war!!!

war game.jpgYear 5 have been studying the writings of Michael Foreman, particularly his award winning book about World War 1, "War Game". We were focusing on his use of strong verbs and adverbs and used them to construct our own complex sentences. We identified with the characters of Will and his friends who joined up in their teens. We imagined ourselves as young recruits in the filthy, inhospitable trenches of the First World War and listened to first hand accounts from war veterans. We then wrote letters home to our friends and families, asking about our loved ones and describing conditions in the trenches. We asked for treats to be sent, such as chocolate and pictures of family and people from home.

If you have encountered Michael Foreman`s book "War Game", we would love to hear what you thought in the form of a book review on this site. Watch this space to read some of our letters home.
