Year 5 Visit the Hindu Temple
On Tuesday 3 March, Year 5 travelled to the Westgate Road Hindu Temple to find out how other cultures worship. When we arrived, we were asked to remove our shoes to show respect for their beliefs. Hindu people are strict vegetarians and prefer no leather products in their temple(Mandir).
We were welcomed and spoken to by the priest, who explained about the many gods and goddesses featured in the temple and some of the festivals being celebrated. We noticed the puja (prayer) tray and the offerings of fruit, flowers and money given to the various deities. We saw Ganesh, the elephant god of good fortune and Hanuman, the monkey god, who helped Rama rescue Sita from Ravanna, the Demon King!
We were given presents of wall hangings at the end of our visit. We enjoyed sketching and recording what we saw. We were lucky enough to watch a Hindu prayer at 11 am. We would like to thank all the friendly staff at the temple for making us feel so welcome.

I really enjoyed the visit and my favourite part was when we got free time to look around. I liked obeying the rules like taking off your shoes.
p.s I couldn't understand what the priest was saying.
