Lands End to John O'Groats - Day 2 - 17 Jan

Another very wet and difficult day. The weather forecast was completely wrong - now there's a surprise. After a ride of 63 miles Don has made it to Tiverton where a well earned night in a bed and breakfast awaited him.

After a nights camp in the beer garden (photo) of an accommodating hostelry (I wonder why he chose such a spot to camp?) Don set of on what was another gruelling day - having to contend with very wet conditions and very hilly terrain. Don eventually made it to Tiverton travelling 63 miles in just over six hours, making a total of 141 miles and 13 hours in the saddle.

The second photo shows the first time the rain had stopped since the ride started and that was after a total of 120 miles.

Don says he spent as much time pushing his bike up the hills as he did pulling the brakes on coming down the other side. I get the feeling this will be his first and only cycling trip to Devon.

The weather forecast for day 3 looks much better (but do we believe it?) and the terrain should start to flatten out a little.

If you want to support Don in his money raising efforts remember donations can be left at the school office.
