Foundation Stage Chinese New Year Activities

chinese_new_year.jpgThis week in both the nursery and reception unit the children have been engaged in
activities linked to Chinese New Year. This is the Year of the Tiger and the children have been making chinese dragons, copying Chinese writing,enjoying a stir fry meal and finding out how Chinese New Year is celebrated. As well as finding out about Chinese culture the children have had an opportunity to find how different cultures celebrate special times in their own particular way. The children have enjoyed this very much and you may like to follow this up as at the weekend there are a range of activities in Newcastle on Sunday14 th February 2010.

Kung Hey Fat Choy!

You may think that new year has already been and gone - but on 14 February 2010 it's Chinese New Year.

Here's a guide to what's happening in Newcastle on the day to welcome in the year of the tiger.

The celebrations run from 11am until 4pm.

You can have a go at Chinese arts and crafts
Bath Lane
• 12pm: Dancing and music with special performances from Edmund Ng's Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu Club.
• Dragon, unicorn and lion procession
• Arts and crafts markets

Stowell Street
• North East Chinese Association building: Exhibition of Chinese costumes, food and arts and crafts

Westgate Road
• Chinese Centre: Chinese calligraphy and the chance to make your own Chinese New Year card

Thornton Street
• Settle Down Café: Visions of China: 2003-2009, an exhibition of photography by Victoria Ling
• Charlotte Square: Children's marquee with lantern making, paper cutting and tiger mask making

There'll be live Chinese dancing and music
Blackfriars
• Garden party marquee
• Newcastle University Chinese Students and Scholars Association presents traditional Chinese games, including face painting for children

Low Friar Street
• Bread Point
• 1pm, 2pm, 3pm: Traditional Chinese tea ceremony

Reception Obstacle Course Photo Mash Up

The children from both of the Reception classes took part in an Obstacle course back in October 2008. There are some grerat photo's of the event in this photo mash up. It take about five minutes to view the whole thing, but is well worth it!

Dates for your diary

Hello!

Here are some dates that you may find useful for your diary:


Christmas dinner is on Thursday 11th December. If your child usually has a packed lunch, they might like to join in the festivites by having a dinner that day. The cost of a school meal is £1.85. Please put the amount in an envelope with your chld's name clearly marked.

Foundation Stage Christmas performance 'A Wonderful Story' is on Friday 12th December.
Mrs Foster and morning nursery parents are invited to attend at 10am.

Miss Page and afternoon nursery afternoon parents are invited to attend at 2pm.
Each family will be allocated two tickets.

The children will be visiting Consett Empire to see a performance of Snow White on Monday the 15th of December at 2pm. The cost of the visit is £12. We are now collecting your voluntary contributions for the visit. So please ensure that this is also in an envelope
with your child's name clearly marked on it. The children will be returning to school later than the normal pick up time. Furhter details will be given later.

Our reception Christmas party is on the afternoon of Friday 19th December. Children wear their school uniform on the morning and change after lunch into their party clothes. If you want to come and help them change please come at 1pm via the main school eception. Children whose parents are unable to come will be assisted by a member of staff.

The party list will be displayed in the porch from Monday 8th December and please can you sign up for the food you will like to bring. Please speak to a member of staff if you have any queries regarding this matter.
